The Phalaenopsis, better known as the moth orchid. I started photographing this in a very traditional way creating an arch of the flowers. However I was drawn more and more towards the centre and the creative opportunities. Difficulty comes in the lighting as frontal lighting leaves the flower somewhat flat and a bit of experimentation I soon came to the conclusion that backlighting was the answer.
I found this works better in mono than colour, being able to explore the tones in light and shade.
